‘Do what you can, with what you’ve got, where you are.” This quote, found in Theodore Roosevelt’s autobiography, is one we’ve been thinking a lot about here at Gutzy Organic.
We are a small company, based in New York City, that was born out of an inner drive to get and stay healthy. As one of many small businesses in one of the US’ COVID-19 epicenters, Founder & CEO David Istier had been sheltering-in-place and thinking how Gutzy could help support essential workers. And then he came across Founders Give.
Cole Riley started Founders Give at the beginning of the pandemic as a way to organize donations from natural food and beverage companies to the frontline healthcare workers at NYC-area hospitals. David immediately said ‘yes’ and ‘when’.
The first of 6,000 gut health snack pouches were delivered to Woodhull Hospital in Brooklyn on May 8, and more will be delivered in the coming days and weeks. At the time of this post, Founders Give has donated more than 2 million products to local hospitals.

We’ve posted a video that David recently recorded, which captures some of his experience and thoughts about this unique period. Check it out on our Facebook page.
David and all of us at Gutzy Organic have a deep sense of gratitude for all essential workers, including grocery store cashiers, mail carriers, firefighters and the like. And we’re feeling pretty good today that we are doing what we can, with what we have, in New York City.
Stay safe. Stay healthy.
And continue to do what you can.
